How to Grow Peas, The Emralds of Spring

Spring is the purview of the delicious Pea. There are snow peas, snap peas and shell peas. This post is about how to plant and grow the "Emeralds of Spring".

Peas are very easy to plant and grow. Plant abut 3 inches apart and 1-2 inches deep if you are using seed.  Time to harvest is about 40 days.

We have pea plants early in the season if you want to cut two weeks off the time to harvest.

Peas do not need to be fertilized as they "create" their own fertilizer from colonies of rizobial bacteria on their roots. This is kinda neat, but you may need to inoculate your pea seeds if you have not grown peas before and the bacteria would not be present in the soil.

We will have pea plants at our booth at the Rochester Farmers market.

Peas and baby potatoes baby. Emeralds and rubies, the gems of spring.
