Petersen's Market Menu for August 1, 2015

Andrea picked Okra for the first time this week. It starts slow the first few weeks. If you want some come early.

Don't miss the squash blossoms and the baby zucchini and patty pan.

We will have leeks and new crop Walla Walla onions.

This Old Tractor

I have been using a 1965 International Harvetor 656 Hydro Static Drive Tractor for primary tillage and mowing. It is about 60 horse power.

I love the hydro stat transmission as it can go very very slow for vegetable transplanting. They just don't make 'em like this any more.

A Trick For Keeping The Deer Out

Deer are creatures of habit. Sometimes you can train them to ignore areas of sensitive plants.

I like to do this with an electric fence early in the season before there are garden plants they'd like to eat.

Sometimes they get a taste for your beans or carrots and then even an electric fence may not keep them out.
