Heirloom tomatoes are notorious for poor disease resistance.
One of the tricks we use to improve this is...
to cage the plants to get them off the ground. Contact with the soil is the main source of diseases and if you can minimize the you will get more yield.
The tomatoes are easier to harvest too.
We use concrete reinforcing wire with six inch openings. One wrap off the roll is a cage.
Reed just put the cages on yesterday. The 75 Brandywine plants get cages first and then additional tomatoes until we are out of cages.
