Winter Broccoli

Minnesota winters are brutal to annual plants, with Zone 4 winters reaching subzero temps by late November and the temps may not relent until March. I picked the last of our field broccoli in November.

I have been growing broccoli since then in a different venue. I don't have a green house or a grow light, or...

You can do it too and here is how.

Sprouts.

I have been growing a pound of delicious broccoli sprouts a week. If heads of broccoli are a super food then broccoli sprouts are a super super food.

I put a 1/2 cup of seeds in a 1/2 gallon jar and 4 days later the jar is full of some of the most delicious and nutrient dense sprouts on the face of the planet.

To grow these sprouts, it takes up about as much space as a mug of coffee.

Pretty cool right.

You can do this with radishes, lentils, mung beans, and alfalfa...and many many more.
