I've been asked quite a few times this fall whether you can save seed from our squash and pumpkins.
The answer is probably not.
The reason is...
We grow our squash in long rows side by side with other squash. So very likely they are crossed pollinated and won't grow the same pure squash we started with.
Some of our varieties are hybrids so won't grow true to the original varieties, but will reflect the traits of one or the other parents.
Pumpkins and squash are different species so won't cross. So you could have pumpkins next to "one" variety of squash and have pure seed.
We get most of our seed from Johnny's Select Seed in Maine. They have some great varieties of squash.
