Five Feet Spacing

Andrea and I were getting ready to plant one of our crops that requires five feet between plants for maximum yield. The fruit averages 50 pounds each.

Can you guess what we were planting...

Jumbo pumpkins. A variety called Cronos from Harris seeds. They average fifty pounds, with gusts to 60 pounds.

We are planting them in hills formed from compost with a couple of large handfuls of organic fertilizer, under the compost.

A pickup full of compost later we prepped about 1000 feet of row for about 200 plants. This variety has a relatively compact habit.
