Farm Heroes

Marvel comics has figured out that the American public is starved for heroes. They have had some interesting movie and TV shows recently.

There are some modern day heroes in Agriculture that may not be household names today but they should be.

Here are my top picks...

Joel Salatin

His Polyface Farm in Virginia grows Grass Fed Beef, Pastured Poultry, and Pigerator Pork. He is one of the most significant innovators in agriculture in our generation. He is a prolific author and speaker. For a sample check out Joel's talks on U-Tube.

Michael Pollan

An American author and professor of journalism at UC Berkley. One of his most famous books "The Omnivore's Dilemma" is a must read for those concerned about the food supply.

Allen Nation

Author of "Holistic Management" is a a leader in the grass fed beef movement. Very interesting management style also.

John Jeavons

Author of "How to Grow More Vegetables..." is a leader in building soils and maximizing the amount food grown per unit area.

Gabe Brown

A farmer and cover crop innovator in North Dakota. He beats the average yield for his county without any added fertilizer, by just using cover crops.
